Overview of Turkey's Foreign Trade

Turkey, located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, boasts a strategic geographical position, serving as a gateway for Eurasian trade. With a population of 83 million, it possesses significant consumer capacity and a vast middle-class market. As a leading economy in the Middle East, Turkey ranks among the top ten emerging markets globally and is one of the world's fastest-growing economies. Currently, Turkey is the 13th largest economy globally and is poised to become the 10th largest by 2023.

Turkey has a high dependence on imports, and amid the backdrop of the "Belt and Road" initiative, Sino-Turkish trade has steadily increased. In 2022, bilateral trade between China and Turkey amounted to $38.55 billion, marking a 12.6% year-on-year increase. Chinese exports to Turkey reached $34.03 billion, reflecting a 16.6% year-on-year growth.

The recent earthquake in Turkey has generated substantial demand for home products. Following the earthquake in February 2023, the Turkish government launched a housing reconstruction program, aiming to construct 200,000 permanent homes within a year for the affected populations in 11 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaras, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, Sanliurfa, and Elazig. The Turkish Housing Development Administration will commence the construction of these residences within two months to expedite the recovery process in the affected areas. China is set to play a significant role as a key partner in this post-earthquake reconstruction effort. Turkish consumers prioritize home decoration and the environment, resulting in increased demand for various household products, including kitchenware, cleaning supplies, decor, packaging, glassware, plastics, ceramics, and metalware. This presents a fresh challenge and opportunity for the home and gift market.

In light of these trade opportunities, the 2023 Turkey HOMELIFE EXPO, scheduled from September 7th to September 9th at the Istanbul World Trade Center, presents an excellent opportunity for Chinese enterprises to enter the Turkish market.
